Mild Amusement

Today I worked...nothing very interesting happened. Actually the most interesting things happened before and after work and those aren't even very interesting. While I was walking to work this morning, the post office ladies were having their coffee break?....Actually more like 'it's too early to work break'... As I walked passed the building they waved at me....later on when I went to get my mail then one lady said to the other that they should smile at me very sweetly every day when I come in as it is very near their coffee break and I work at Pizza Haven so.... Maybe one day I would bring them a treat! The other lady instantly began smiling! Silly ladies...This is the part of a small town that I like.

Later while I was walking home, a van pulled up next to me and the lady called me over to ask for directions...If this were in Winnipeg I would not go over to some van but Altona is fairly safe so I obliged. They wanted to know if I knew where there was a restaurant owned by an East Indian lady...Ha...It's next door to Pizza Haven, of course I know where it is! They were way off in looking for the place cause I was almost home already and that's several blocks away. I always wonder if people find their destination after I give directions. It's always strangers who ask me for them and so I never get to find out if I give good ones or not!

Wasted Weekend!

What a long weekend! First we were hoping to go camping because the forecast at the beginning of the week was gorgeous. We quickly changed our minds as the forecast turned sour nearing the weekend. Instead we decided to do random 'campy' things without the camping. Friday was a nice evening so we went out for dinner and then to a challenging game of mini golf. That was a really great date night! However, saturday was a total right off....I slept in while Ike cleaned the fire hall. Then we borrowed our friend's canoe and drove all the way out to Killarney. Going back to the whole borrowing a canoe thing...Other people make it look so easy to strap it to the roof of a van and go....hmmm...Not so...first of all, it was SUPER windy on saturday which didn't help at all. We got the thing well positioned with foam blocks and strapped as tightly as possible. At first it seemed ok...only minor wobblage due to wind...but then...the semi test....Not so good. two blocks went flying out from under the canoe and into the ditch....causing the straps to seem loosened and the canoe to shift majorly! After that emergency stop to chase after the foam blocks and re-strap and add more straps...we finally got the hang of it and were on our way to Killarney. We chose Killarney because some friends' of Ike's were camping out there and we figured we could hang out. Wrong. Apparently my husband never called in advance (which I asked him to do the day before) to make sure that this would work out. We get there and they are on their way out for dinner with other friends. Sigh...so we found our own disgustingly dirty little restaurant to eat at and drove all the way home again. We would've gone canoeing by ourselves but the weather was crap--windy, rainy, dark dark clouds. The upside to saturday was that we then had tea and played Uno (the new one with the machine that spits cards) with the friends that we borrowed the canoe from when we got home. Sunday we slept in...ahhhh holidays....I found a listing for a very cheap used canoe (we've been looking for one for ourselves) and so we drove out to Marchand (South-East of Steinbach) to have a look at it. It wasn't exactly what we had been hoping for but for the price, it was good enough. It has a couple of patches which Ike said he'll make nicer and then we'll get his brother to paint it for us. It'll be brand new. We didn't end up having time to test it out yet...but maybe this evening when Ike gets home. Later sunday evening we went to the drive-in in Morden for a triple feature-- Clash of the Titans, Cop-out, and Valentine's Day. We've been tons of times before and never had any problems but for some reason this time we couldn't get any sound to work....ugh...totally ruined the first movie. By the second movie Ike rigged up a wire and walkie antenna which sorta worked....sigh....Just not our weekend....Couldn't even just make-out either cause I had my period and was getting quite crabby by that point! lol Monday we slept in...as we only made it home after 4am due to the movies....and I spent the rest of the day in my pj's just relaxing which I should've just done the other two days too...Probably would've accomplished more and spent less money and gas!

Our new used canoe...I guess we'll need paddles at some point too! :)

Time for Plants!

The other day, I decided that seeing as we were having 30C+ weather it was safe to start my garden and fill my planters with flowers!

In my garden I planted Roma Tomatoes, Spanish White Onions, Green Peppers, One lonely Purple Pepper (yes purple...I thought it would be fun), Anaheim Peppers (giant mildly hot full of flavor peppers, great for stuffing and grilling), Leaf Lettuce, Snap Peas, and Dill Weed. Take note of how my garden looks freshly planted and I show you an update in a few weeks!

Above is a Limon plant and some Lobelia...I just loved the look of the delicate tall stems and tiny flowers on the Limon! The Lobelia will produce soft pink flowers and is a cascading plant.
In this hanging basket I planted a Purple Heart and some pink Bacopas...Both are cascading flowers and will look magnificent if I can keep them alive all summer! In my other hanging basket I planted a Fuscia which I will post a picture of it when it is in full bloom as it is one of my all time favorite plants!

Here's my African Daisy...Loved the colour!

And my herbs...There's Lavender in the center (I know not an herb but I threw it in there), Oregano on the left, Rosemary on the right, and Summer Savory is the tall stems behind the Lavender (It's used in soups and dressings).

And another purchase I couldn't resist...my flowering cactus...hopefully the rain tonight doesn't tear my flowers off of it!

Project Zoe ~ Reveal

Well...I did have one more teaser but I got lazy this week and missed a few posts....plus Jackie got it out of me anyhow! So for the big reveal...Here's the super soft cuddly puppy I made for Zoe! It's a bit hard to tell from the picture but it's baby green with white accents, a brown and green bow, and brown hearts for eyes (I think they were brown...lol). I need to make myself one...man I love them!

Weekend News

It was Claudia's 12th birthday on saturday so she had a couple of friends over for a sleepover. I made the giggly girls pizza for supper and mmm mmm mmm chocolate fondue with animal crackers, strawberries, oranges, apples, marshmallows, and pretzels to dip! They watched a couple of movies (boy I'm glad we have two t.v.'s cause they talked the whole time) and stayed up late (sigh...I had to work early the next morning). The next morning Ike made the girls egg mcmuffins and hashbrowns then brought them home. I am such a terrible mom as I did not take any pictures...I had the camera ready and everything but forgot, so you'll just have to imagine the chocolatey mess they made! :(
Today I worked early (8am is considered my early shift...not that it's really early) and I got off early because it was dead! So nice especially on a wonderfully sunny and hot day! The End.

Ooooh beautiful bathroom accomplished!

Project Zoe ~ Part 2

Ok I was wrong....I didn't get the package in the mail yesterday...but I definitely mailed it today...the lady said 8 days but I know that it's sometimes faster than that! Here's another clue...It fits into this box!

We're Getting Somewhere! Here's Proof...

Had some technical difficulties yesterday as Ike had taken our one and only jump drive to work with him and left it there. I couldn't possibly post without pictures! So here is yesterday's entry...
We're finally nearing the end of our renovations! I convinced Ike to work like a mad dog these past couple of weeks and this is what we accomplished.
1. All the trim is painted and installed.
2. Brand new interior doors and handles installed.
3. Tub skirt was put together today and now to paint and install it.
4. Love it!

Here's some before & afters...for some reason I can't find any before pictures of our hideous doors...orangy-browny coloured doors with old goldy-brassy knobs!

Project Zoe ~ Part 1

I've been in a crafty mood lately so I decided to make something for baby Zoe. I really should be cleaning my house and finishing up a bit of painting but....meh. Last week I went out and bought all the materials that I would need to create this wonderful gift. It took me only a few hours to complete and I wish I could already show you pictures of it but I know that Trish creeps on my blog so I can't just yet! (It'll be in the mail tomorrow Trish!) However, I have decided to leave you with a teaser of a picture--a little part of the project.
Happy Guessing!

More Mother's Day

For Mother's Day I used the magic of my cricut and other sparkly supplies to make wonderful cards for my moms! I also made one for my grandma Klassen and on the inside it said, "Grandma's are moms with lots of frosting!". So witty! For Ike's mom we took her out to a nice restaurant in Gretna for dinner! It's called Nora's and the couple who own it are regulars of Pizza Haven. He is an amazing red seal chef and she's a great hostess (she's actually an interior designer or was I should say). They opened up not too long ago and I am so glad for another great restaurant nearby! For my mom and the rest of the fam. I made cinnamelts (a McPuke's clone but much much much tastier) and coconut macaroons! Sorry no pictures of those, I was in way too much of a hurry when I made them to take pictures (so much to do in so little time) and they were gobbled up even quicker! I am definitely going to make them again in the near future though...they were just so delish and better yet they are freezer friendly. I will then take pictures!
Tomorrow's post will be a sneak peak of my latest handywork!

Mother's Day!

I've received some complaints about my lack of blogging. Apparently somebody gets bored at work and really wants to know what kind of mundane things I've been up to on a daily basis. So...I am going to TRY to make entries once a day no matter how sad and boring they may be! (notice try is in capitals...).
This year was the first year that I have had a real mother's day! Claudia did not visit with her mom this weekend and so I actually had a child for the day. She was really sweet, her and my mother-in-law had gone shopping for a couple of gifts and a card. The notebook from TenThousandVillages, bunny candleholder, and necklace/earring set are pictured above. She also drew me several pictures incorporating the word mom and I heart mom while we drove to Dave's for dinner. Ike bought me the flowers and promised a professional massage in the near future! Of course, this morning my cat knocked over the vase; breaking it and spilling water all over the table, chair, and floor! Great! I had to rush to clean it up and find a new vase before leaving for work.
In other news....I heard this morning at work that over the weekend some man from Altona murdered his girlfriend, who was cheating on him, and then killed himself. Six months prior she had left her husband and son in Alberta and started seeing this man. He wasn't enough for her so she cheated on him with some other guy, with whom she was in bed with when she was shot to death. Some people! Moral of the story...Don't leave your husband and don't cheat on your boyfriend!

Deprivation leads to Blogging

I'm sad and a bit mad which makes it difficult to sleep, so here I am making some much needed updates to my blog when I should be sleeping! Do you like it? Much prettier and easier on the eyes I think... In the picture, the massive thing I am holding is a REAL flower cut from my mother-in-law's garden!
